Durante la inhalación las  costillas se abren hacia fuera y hacia arriba al mismo tiempo que la  columna vertebral se alarga hacia arriba logrando con ello llenar los  pulmones de oxígeno al máximo. Al inhalar es muy importante no relajar  los músculos abdominales para&lt;span class="text_exposed_hide"&gt; ...&lt;/span&gt; así evitar perder la alineación postural.&lt;span class="messageBody"&gt;&lt;span class="text_exposed_show"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La  exhalación, por su parte, facilita la contracción de los músculos  abdominales. Un ambiente relajado permite la comunicación directa entre el alumno y el         instructor, todo ello con una música suave y grata al oído y         al espíritu. En definitiva, busca un trabajo integral de la         mente, del cuerpo y del espíritu; es una educación corporal         muy         completa         en la que se trabaja el cuerpo como un todo, desde la         musculatura superior hasta la inferior, y en la que         intervienen por igual y en armonía la mente y el cuerpo. Se         ha definido al método Pilates como el &lt;i&gt;"Yoga Occidental"&lt;/i&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;     &lt;br /&gt;        Sus principios son:&lt;br /&gt;     &lt;br /&gt;        1. Control físico (para evitar lesiones).&lt;br /&gt;        2. Precisión (derivada del control).&lt;br /&gt;        3. Flexibilidad (ningún movimiento debe ser rígido).&lt;br /&gt;        4.
